The latest MASE report covering Italian project permitting procedures as of April 30th 2024 for standalone batterystorage, pumped hydro and thermal generation plants > 300 MW was just published last week click here.
Interesting reading… around 14.5 GW of standalone batterystorage are now in permitting having filed for MASE AU.
Adding up this year’s report to previous years the volume of approved standalone BESS projects reaches a cumulative of around 2.5 GW which have obtained MASE AU decrees.
To be noted that a large majority of these consented projects are owned by Enel and have already been committed to previous Capacity Market auctions buildout.
NOTE: It should be clear that these statistics exclude projects in Sicily, which is the only region where a regional AU process applies, as well as projects < 10 MW and projects where the simplified local PAS process may apply and finally they also exclude co-located/hybrid projects with solar or wind (all of which are not covered in the MASE report).
We did some work to analyze the available data and identify the primary developers behind the SPVs (not everything is traceable, so there may be some minor imprecisions).
The number of players getting involved in standalone battery storage as expected has increased
markedly.
Below an anonymized snapshot of the spread.
